Learning To Deal with Menopause
Naturally
The natural process of menopause will affect
women of different ages, but it can begin without notice
and many of the symptoms of menopause begin subtly and
slowly become a part of the woman's daily life. Strictly
medically speaking, menopause is the time when the
woman's body ends its reproductive cycle when the ovaries
cease functioning. There are many common menopause
symptoms: hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia and mood
swings. These symptoms can last for months and
even years during what commonly is called
pre-menopause.
Menopause in its simplest terms has often been
referred to as puberty in reverse as the female body goes
through the natural stage of life ending the reproductive
stage. Essentially, all of the hormones the body has been
producing as part of the gestational process ends. The
decrease in hormones has been blamed for all of the
symptoms experienced by pre-menopausal women.
While a woman going through pre-menopause often
feels an increase in anxiety, the higher levels of stress
also exacerbate the increase in tension and can cause
difficulty in concentrating as well as a decrease in
energy. The mood swings often associated with menopausal
women is also due to the decrease in hormone production
as well as the increased anxiety.
For some, the logical solution would be to
undergo hormone replacement therapy and to put hormones
back into the body to eliminate all of the symptoms
associated with the body's failure to produce them. While
this may sound good on paper, the use of synthetic
hormones has not proven an effective treatment for
menopausal women, often causing additional problems
unrelated to the natural shutting down of the
reproductive process.
As recently as 20 years ago, it was commonly
held that there was little could be done to stop the
symptoms of menopause. Essentially the women simply had
to suffer through the process, much the same as they
suffered through puberty. However, new research has
identified natural products that can help reduce the
symptoms of menopause without adding to the problems
suffered with the use of faux hormones.
While menopause has been seen in women between
45 and 55, the average age of menopause onset is 51 years
of age. However, that is an average and it has been seen
in women as young as 30 and as old as 65. Just as
beginning puberty is different in every woman, so is the
age of menopause. The use of hormone replacement
therapies is often shunned by women due to the side
effects. In order to help reduce the symptoms of
menopause they are turning more to natural products and
botanicals.
Natural products are being used to reduce
anxiety and stress as well as to regulate the body's
internal thermostat that is blamed for night sweats and
hot flashes. For women going through the menopause
process, the simple advice of 'take a pill' is no longer
acceptable and those in this stage of their life want to
be able to feel normal again while their bodies go
through this natural aging process.
